EXPATWOMAN 1ST EDUCATIONAL FAIR – 23RD FEBRUARY, 2009
Hundreds of parents and children visited the event throughout the course of the night, showing the importance of the private education market in the UAE.
The event began at 6pm with representatives from many schools including Repton Dubai, American Community School of Sharjah, GEMS World Academy, JESS and Dubai College.
The event was tailored towards providing information to newcomers into the region and existing students and parents in the UAE. Representatives from the schools were on hand to discuss the available options in Dubai in regards to primary and secondary schooling.
ACS Sharjah is located on the border of Sharjah/Dubai and offers an American curriculum supported with an optional special needs programme – the first of its kind in the region.
The team from the school included the Admissions Director, Registrar, Principal, Occupational Therapist and the Headmaster, Dr. Robert Spellman. Dr. Spellman hosted an informal Q&A session with parents to openly discuss the lack of special needs support in the UAE. Parents were able to voice their concerns and were pleased that a school in the region was now available to children with gifted learning needs, ESL and special needs.
Conversations and the constant drum of excited parents and children continued well in to the night, a testament to the fact that in amidst of the current economic fluctuations in the world, education can and does play a vital role in the lives of all people in the region.
