American Community School of Sharjah (ACS Sharjah) had its official press launch event at the Holiday International Hotel, Sharjah on Saturday 21st March, 2009.

The event was for VIP’s, press and educational delegates featuring such dignitaries as HE Ali Meyhad Al Suwaidy, the Advisor of the Minister of Education in the UAE, Dr. Abdul Hameed Hallab, a member in the Board of Trustees of the American Community School-Sharjah, Mr. Salem Al Qaseer, Vice Chancellor at Sharjah University, Mr. Mohammed Al Moosa, the Academic Advisor of HH Ruler of Sharjah, Mrs. Aisha Saif, Head of Sharjah Council, Mr. Mohammed Salem, Head of programming at Al Khaleejiyah and Mr. Mohammed Seddiqi from Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons.

Headmaster, Dr. Robert Spellman spoke to a captivated audience about the school offering the first optional fully supported special needs program in the UAE.  Evolvence Capital Chairman, Mr. Khaled Al Muhairy also addressed the audience to discuss the launch of such a large and prestigious school in the heart of Sharjah.

ACS Sharjah will be the premier American curriculum school in the UAE.  It is located on a fully-equipped and spacious 1.4 million sq. ft. campus on the Sharjah/Dubai border, making it the largest school in the Middle East.

Developed in conjunction with its partner school, ACS at Beirut, ACS Sharjah will utilize more than 100 years of success-proven educational development and experience in ultra-modern facilities, ensuring its students are offered the very best academic, extra curricular and sporting opportunities.

The campus will shape the schools’ delivery of the American curriculum by incorporating rigor, relevance and rapport in a standards-based setting.  ACS Sharjah will offer an American Curriculum from its opening in September 2009 and intends to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma, pending accreditation.  Complimenting this is the optional POLARIS Program.  This program has been set up in response to the increasing demand for special needs and gifted assistance throughout the UAE.

The POLARIS Program is the first of its kind in the UAE; a program that actively addresses the needs of gifted and differentiated learners.  POLARIS features educational specialists from the fields of special needs, ESL and gifted education.  In addition to this Occupational and Speech Therapists will be permanent members of staff in order to enrich the learning environment, ensuring students are able to understand and succeed in the demanding curriculum offered at the school.

ACS Sharjah will provide an American-style education for families in the UAE, while fostering a lively and stimulating atmosphere in its learning community.  Dr. Robert Spellman, Headmaster of ACS Sharjah, stated that the word “community” says much about who we are and what we stand for at ACS Sharjah.  He believes that success can only be achieved when everyone comes together – students, parents and teachers – to create a positive atmosphere of learning, where each stakeholder is encouraged to engage and benefits from the gifts each member has to offer.
