ABOUT ACS SHARJAH

OUR MASCOT

Our mascot at ACS Sharjah is the Desert Cat. The Desert Cat, also known as the "Arabian Mau" is native to the Middle East region and has been here for over 1,000 years.

The desert cat has evolved over the years to withstand the harsh conditions of the Arabian Desert and has adapted to its natural surroundings.

After 4 years of research conducted here in the UAE, the Arabian Mau breed was recognized by the World Cat Federation (WCF) in Germany.

Characteristics of the Desert Cat
The Desert Cat is a medium sized cat has a muscular body structure with long, high legs and oval-shaped paws. It has a long but distinctly round shaped head with a curved profile and visible whisker pads.  A key feature of the Desert Cat is its large ears that are placed towards the sides of the head. It has large, oval-shaped eyes where the eye color will match the color of the coat. The profile of the cat ends with a medium-length tail, tapering towards the tip.

The Desert Cat coat is without any undercoat and lies close to the body. In adult cats the quality of the coat is firm to the touch and able to withstand the harsh conditions of the Arabian Desert.

Why the "Desert Cat"
The Desert Cat was chosen for the ACS Sharjah Mascot as it is a native animal of the UAE.  The Desert Cat imbibes the qualities of strength, endurance and resilience, and is a symbol of triumph over great adversity.  We feel that these qualities, along with a thirst for knowledge, are what ACS Sharjah students should strive to achieve.
